It has been said that a cigar was to be given out on the occasion of the birth of your child or other special occasion. I’m not sure where this tradition came from. Probably, like most traditions of this sort, it came from the upper classes or possibly even royalty when they were celebrating much lesser events than this.
Not too long ago, you wouldn’t even need such a special excuse to hand out a macanudo cigar if you happened to be a cigar afficionado knew your guests would appreciate being given one. It was probably even expected in many business situations to have a cigar handed to you as a gift.
