There seems to be a spate of new cases out there where drugs have been found the culprits in causing horrible side effects. One such case is with the drug called Topamax. This drug was originally prescribed to patients to try to prevent epileptic seizures and even to treat migraines. Apparently, it was also given as a treatment for other non approved conditions by doctors.
The problem was discovered with Topamax that it was causing side effects in the unborn children of the parent taking the drug. For example, children began developing cleft palate, which is a malformation of the upper lip such that a split or cleft appears permanently in developing children.
This has been addressed now by the FDA thankfully. And it is also being addressed in the courts in the form of Topamax lawsuit. In other words, there is some compensation available to victims of this drug.
